Nikolay Shkot

Nikolay Yakovlevich Shkot ((ロシア語:Никола́й Я́ковлевич Шкот); 1829, Kostroma Governorate – 1870, St. Peterburg), was a war veteran of Siege of Sevastopol during the Crimean War. He was badly wounded in the battle.
After the War he commanded corvette ''America'' and troopship ''Yaponets'' on Far East. The expedition made geographic discoveries at a coast of modern Primorsky Krai (Peter the Great Gulf, Nakhodka Bay e t.c.) and Sakhalin (Moneron Island).〔(Шкот Николай Яковлевич )〕 He was one of founders of Vladivostok and hydrographic post on a place of modern Nakhodka.
Nikolay Shkot became Captain First Rank in 1868.〔(Navy.su )〕 He died in Saint Petersburg after a long illness.
An island in Sea of Japan, a village and a river in South Primorye, and a cape in Olga Bay are named after him.
